Pinangba is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led service delivery arm of UnitingCare. The foundations of Pinangba are built from our cultural identity and strong community relationships and partnerships.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for two passionate Case Workers to become a part of our Stagpole Street Drug and Alcohol rehabilitation unit. These roles are fixed term full time for the period of 2 years.
Based in Townsville, the unit specialises in culturally appropriate healing services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people whose lives have been negatively affected by substance use. This program is unique in its delivery and looks to harness the power of outcomes-focussed investment to achieve real change for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their families.
As the Case worker, you will focus on working intensively and therapeutically within a culturally informed Substance misuse rehabilitation framework. You will be responsible for conducting comprehensive initial drug and alcohol assessments that will support in not only developing a treatment plan but also guiding you in how to counsel and support each of your clients in a way that meets their individual needs.
You will bring with you a wealth of knowledge gained through previous experience working therapeutically with people in crisis or people who have been negatively impacted by substance misuse. You will have a genuine passion for supporting people to overcome addiction while also being comfortable to offer a non-judgement environment for your clients to work through any of the psychological, physical or social issues that have directly impacted their sobriety. In addition you will draw from your previous lived experience working with or as a part of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community leveraging from your already well established positive connections with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community groups (including elders). Due to the unique deliver of this program it would be highly desirable that the successful candidate identify as a member of the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
