Position Summary

UnitingCare’s Pinangba service is inviting applications from Diversional Therapists/Lifestyle Coordinators to partner with individual clients in supporting their personalised activity program at our Star of the Sea Elders Village at Thursday Island.

Do you enjoy planning leisure and lifestyle activities for residents living in care?  We have the ideal position for individuals looking for permanent part time opportunities.


The Pinangba service of Star of the Sea Elders Village services the Torres Strait Islands. It prides itself on empowering our Elders in their day-to-day lives and improving health outcomes for Torres Strait Islander communities.


As a Diversional Therapist, you will develop, implement and deliver quality leisure activities that meets the individual residents’ needs to enhance their quality of life.  Working alongside a multi-disciplinary team, supporting one another to deliver outcomes and identifying opportunities for continuous improvements, centred on improving resident’s health and wellness within our facility.


Your duties will include, but will not be limited to:  

  • Partner with individual clients and residents to support lifestyle activity choices to meet the needs of the individual, improve socialisation choices and maintain community connections where able.
  • Explore an individual’s interests and partner with them to develop and enhance their skills and lifestyle choices to encourage and support them to consider and plan toward suitable individual and group activities.
  • Re-assess individuals’ responses to social and lifestyle activities on a regular basis, and document and advise accordingly.
  • Evaluate, document and report on individual’s outcomes, successes and adjustments for Leisure and Lifestyle activities, to immediate supervisor to ensure individuals are achieving their specific goal or desired outcome.
  • Observe and report promptly any changes or concerns in a person’s health, well-being or behaviour to the immediate supervisor and document when required.
  • Provide support to other staff in the delivery, implementation and monitoring of Leisure and Lifestyle activities and programs and report concerns to immediate supervisor 


Your skills and experience

  • Diploma of Leisure and Health or Certificate IV in Leisure and Health or similar
  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Demonstrated ability to assess lifestyle requirements and contribute to Care Plans to meet lifestyle needs in a person centred framework
  • Demonstrated understanding of person centred, community and residential based care services delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer and automated technology.
  • Effective interpersonal, written communication and problem solving skills.
  • Current First Aid Certificate and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate or willingness to obtain if required.

Supporting our clients in the best way possible is important to us. To be employed by Blue Care, you will be required to complete the free NDIS Worker Orientation Module prior to commencement and provide a copy of your certificate on completion.
