The Opportunity:

Cape York Family Centre are seeking Casual Duty Officers to join our team in Cooktown. 

 

We provide residential alcohol and other drug rehabilitation services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families of Cape York in Far North Queensland.

 

You don’t need to have had similar experience or qualifications to be successful in this role! We’re looking for those with the right attitude, professionalism, motivation and passion to help us support our clients and their families. You will join an experienced and supportive team with full training provided to ensure your success in this role.

 

As a Duty Officer you will:

  • Complete general cleaning duties of the centre and vehicles
  • Regularly check the security of the facility to ensure client safety and record observations
  • Prevent and manage where possible the de-escalation of conflicts
  • Provide support and assistance with client diversional activities
  • Provide an afterhours service to enquiries and support to residents
  • Observe and report any maintenance issues or incidents

 

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • A Current First Aid and CPR Certificate or willingness to obtain
  • A current QLD driver’s license
  • Blue Card or willingness to obtain
  • Knowledge of social health and cultural issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people desirable
  • The ability to effectively communicate with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Strong conflict resolution skills and confidence in your ability to deescalate conflict situations
  • Be available to work shifts; days, nights and weekends
